The client approached us with a clear vision: to create a serene and inviting sanctuary that embodies calm, comfort, and understated elegance. At the heart of this brief was the desire for a space that feels grounded and restorative—a place to unwind, recharge, and feel connected to nature, even when indoors.
A neutral colour palette was central to the client’s request. They envisioned a scheme built around soft, earthy tones—think warm greys, calming creams, and gentle taupes—designed to soothe the senses and act as a backdrop for deeper textures and layered natural elements. The aim was to steer clear of bold, overpowering colours in favour of tones that evoke a sense of peace and timelessness.
The client also wanted natural materials to take centre stage. This included the use of light and medium-tone woods for furniture and flooring, linen and cotton for curtains, upholstery, and throws, and textured finishes that offer a tactile connection to the organic world. These materials not only provide warmth and authenticity but also align with the client’s values around sustainability and ethical sourcing.
A key consideration was the use of natural light. The client expressed a strong preference for spaces that feel open and sun-drenched, making the most of large windows, sheer curtains, and skylights where possible. The light was not only to illuminate the space but to create a daily rhythm—welcoming the morning sun and soft afternoon glow to influence the atmosphere throughout the day.
To enhance the overall mood, the client asked us to keep the space clutter-free, with simple, intentional styling that supports slow living. Every piece had to serve a purpose—either functional or emotional—so the final result would reflect thoughtful curation rather than excess.
In summary, the brief was about crafting a refined yet relaxed retreat. One where the natural world is subtly echoed in every detail, and where the client could step in and feel instantly at ease.
