Decorex Cape Town 2026 just wrapped up at the CTICC (25–28 June), and it left us with plenty of inspiration. This year’s exhibition completely stepped away from the relentless rush of hustle culture, turning instead to a theme that feels like a collective sigh of relief: “The Soft Life.”
Rather than treating comfort as a luxury or an afterthought, Decorex 2026 reframed it as a cultural necessity. The focus shifted entirely toward intentional living, sensory comfort, and creating spaces that actively restore our nervous systems.
Here is a look at the major design movements, colors, and standout installations that defined this year’s Cape Town show.
The Palette: Earthy Grounding Meets Natural Vibrancy
The visual language of the show perfectly captured this lifestyle pivot. The spaces were anchored in a deeply tactile, cocooning base of earthy neutrals, but with a sharp, modern twist.
The Foundation: Sun-warmed clay, deep plum, soft sage, and muted coral. These tones are all about quiet luxury, working to diffuse light and soften the hard edges of a room.
The Juxtaposition: In a clever contrast, these calm backdrops were paired with the intense, vivid neons that occur naturally in the wild—think electric lime, neon magenta, and ultraviolet. It proved that a “soft life” doesn’t have to mean boring or devoid of energy.

The Soft Life Pods: A series of intimate, designer-led spaces created by local powerhouses like Constantia Fabrics and Karoo Baba. Each pod explored how material, light, and ritual can impact our well-being, emphasizing plush textures and curved silhouettes.
Ten x Ten: A landmark feature curated by 100% Design Africa that showcased 100 exceptional design objects across 10 categories. The focus here was entirely on heritage, materiality, and soul over fleeting trends.
FloodLight: Developed in collaboration with spatial lighting designer Martin Döller, this feature celebrated the “soft power” of local lighting design. Featuring pieces from studios like Mash.T and TheUrbanative, it highlighted how lighting functions as an emotional anchor rather than just a utility.
A Massive Win for South African Design:Decorex officially announced a groundbreaking international partnership with Maison&Objet Paris. South Africa has been named the Spotlight Country for the Rising Talent programme in Paris this coming September, opening up an incredible global pipeline for our local creators.
